I just got back in after running the Nike ‘Run London‘ 10K in Hyde Park.
I’ve only ever (in the last 25 years) run 6K before so wasn’t sure how I’d cope. But, in the event it wasn’t too bad, I think I started to have a bit of an overheating ‘moment’ around the 7K mark, but the company of about 30,000 other people (not including spectators who line the route) and a bottle of water poured over the head tends to spur you on !
This year the theme was North London (lots of fit blondes with bunches) versus South London (large faces). The tannoys had been reporting a lead by North London for most of the day, and when I left after my wave, North London’s average time was only two seconds ahead of South London’s! The Run London website and assorted news sources should, by now be reporting the outcome.
My time ? 54m. 31s.
I came 5033rd in the North, or 10129th out of everyone.
Update: apparently the South won with an average time of 56m. 9s. (the North’s was 56m. 26s). Seb Coe who was supporting the South said:
““The South gave it their all, and should be proud of their determination and dedication and we now know the South is the best”“
- Seb Coe was born in North London, which only goes to show that if you pay the man enough money he’ll spout any old crap.
I’ll leave the last word to Nike, who emailed me today with the message:
You may have heard a rumour the South came in first. Maybe,
but you still wouldn’t want to live there, would you?

Congrats on completing the run! Nice one of the competion time, was this PB?

Thanks. I guess it was a personal best if you bear in mind I haven’t run over 6K in the last 25 years!!

is that true about seb coe? what a poser! well done on the time - 54min is very impressive. way more so than my “stagger” over the line 60mins! I am still a bit achy today. perhaps next time I should train some more…
